Fair Usage Policy

How AI assessment is included in a ReMarkAble School licence.

Effective date: 3 October 2026 · Last updated: 3 October 2026

ReMarkAble AI is a trading name of Social Media for Schools Ltd (company number 12499067).

1. What this policy covers

This policy applies to ReMarkAble School licences. A School licence includes AI assessment of pupils' work as part of the licence price — there is no separate charge for each piece of work assessed. It sits alongside our Terms of Service and your school's service agreement. Pricing for School licences is on our school pricing page.

2. Usage is pooled across your school

AI assessment is shared across everyone on your licence. There is no limit per pupil: some pupils may submit nothing in a given week, while others submit several pieces of work. What matters is your school's use as a whole.

3. What we expect

We expect AI assessment to be used for normal teaching and learning — classwork, homework, practice and assessment of the pupils on your licence.

Usage naturally varies through the school year. Mock examination periods, assessment weeks and the run-up to formal exams cause temporary spikes, and that is exactly what the service is for.

4. No automatic hard stop

If your school temporarily goes above expected usage, marking does not stop. There is no automatic cut-off and no point at which pupils' work is refused because the school has been busy.

5. If usage is unusually high

  • Where usage is exceptionally high, or stays high for a sustained period, we may contact your school to understand how ReMarkAble is being used.
  • Where usage is consistently far outside normal use, we may discuss a more appropriate arrangement with you — for example, a licence that better reflects the pupils actually using the service.
  • We will always talk to you first.

6. What is not fair use

The following are not fair use of a School licence:

  • Deliberate abuse of the service.
  • Automated or bulk processing outside the service's intended educational use, such as scripted submissions or processing work that is not from pupils on your licence.
  • Attempts to circumvent the intended operation of the service, including sharing access beyond your licence.

These are also covered by the acceptable use terms in our Terms of Service.
