The Department for Education (DfE) provides a collection of support materials for schools and colleges on using generative AI. We recommend all educators review the official guidance.
How we read DfE guidance for assessment
The DfE guidance on generative AI in education, and the separate Generative AI product safety expectations, do not publish a numbered five-principle list. The themes below are our reading of those documents for classroom assessment — not a claim that DfE numbered them this way. The strongest line in the guidance is that quality and content remain the responsibility of the professional who produced them, which is exactly what teacher release enforces.
Data Protection & Privacy
Student work is never used to train public AI models, and personal data is handled under UK GDPR.
