GCSE & A-Level Results Day 2026:
The Essential Checklist
Everything you need to stay calm and prepared for August. From required documents to understanding your grade boundaries, we've got you covered.
Key Dates & Times
Results day happens on different dates depending on your qualification:
- A-Level & AS-Level: Thursday 13 August 2026
- GCSE: Thursday 20 August 2026
Results are typically available for collection from schools and colleges from 8:00 AM, though some may email them or provide them via an online portal earlier.
What to Bring With You
- Photo ID: Some colleges require this to release results.
- Mobile Phone: Fully charged, to call parents or research options.
- UCAS Track Login: (A-Level only) To check your university status.
- Pen & Notepad: To write down any advice or contact numbers.
Understanding Grade Boundaries
Grade boundaries change every year. If you are just a few marks away from a higher grade, you might consider a remark. Check the 2026 boundaries as soon as they are released on results day morning.
Appeals & Reviews of Marking
If a grade looks wrong — especially if you were predicted much higher — you can ask your school to request a review of marking from the exam board. You cannot contact the board yourself; your exams officer submits it.
- Ask for your raw marks first. If you're 1–3 marks below a boundary, a review is most worthwhile.
- Priority service (A-Level): if your university place depends on it, ask for a priority review — the deadline is usually within about a week of results day.
- Fees: boards charge per paper, refunded if your grade changes. Grades can go down as well as up, so take advice before requesting.
- Access to scripts: you can request a copy of your marked paper — useful for deciding whether to appeal or to guide resit revision.
Clearing, Resits & Next Steps
Clearing (A-Level): open July–October 2026. Check UCAS Hub for your Clearing number, shortlist courses with vacancies, and phone universities directly — verbal offers go fast on results morning.
November resits (GCSE): English Language and Maths can be resat in November 2026 — most students keep studying alongside their post-16 course. Other subjects resit in summer 2027.
If you're resitting, the fastest way to improve is feedback on every practice paper — that's exactly what our GCSE AI marker and mock exam marking are built for.
Moving Up: Year 11 → Sixth Form
Starting A-Levels in September? The jump in essay standards catches most students out. Getting examiner-style feedback on your writing from week one — before your first real assessment — is the single biggest head start you can give yourself. See the A-Level AI marker.
Didn't get the grades you expected?
Don't panic. You have options. Whether it's Clearing for University, Resits, or appealing your grade, there is always a path forward.
Check Your Marks
Ask your teacher for your raw marks. Use our AI Marker to see if your practice work matched your result.

Results Day 2026: Your Questions Answered
When is GCSE results day 2026?
GCSE results day 2026 is Thursday 20 August 2026. Results are usually available from 8:00 AM at your school or college, and many schools also email results or release them through an online portal.
When is A-Level results day 2026?
A-Level and AS-Level results day 2026 is Thursday 13 August 2026. UCAS Track updates from around 8:00 AM, so you can see your university place status before you even open the envelope.
Can I get my GCSE or A-Level paper remarked?
Yes. Ask your school to request a review of marking from the exam board — you cannot request it yourself. There is a fee (refunded if your grade changes), and your grade can go down as well as up. If a university place depends on the outcome, ask for the priority service, which has an earlier deadline.
What happens if I fail GCSE English or Maths in 2026?
You can resit GCSE English Language and Maths in November 2026 — schools and colleges usually enter students automatically if they're continuing in education, because a grade 4+ in both is required alongside most post-16 courses. Other GCSE subjects can be resat in summer 2027.
How does Clearing work in 2026?
Clearing matches students without a confirmed place to universities with spaces. It's open from July to October 2026. On results day, check UCAS Hub for your Clearing number, shortlist courses with vacancies, phone the universities directly, and add your Clearing choice once you have a verbal offer.
